This thermostat allows current to flow through it until a specified temperature is reached. This device is different from the thermistor because it allows a charge / no charge situation to occur. This means that if for any reason, the thermistor fails to restrict the amount of charge, the heat from the battery pack will be enough to shut down the charge completely. This avoids your expensive battery pack turning into a molten blob of plastic.
